Bough Beech Icicle Series starts 3rd January
Bough Beech Sailing Clubs annual Icicle Series will kick off the club racing for 2010. Regarded by many of the Bough Beech sailors and visitors alike as the premier Bough Beech race series, the Icicle offers, formidible and demanding racing in tough condtions against some of the finest sailors in the South East.
"Icicle" is certainly the right name for this popular winter series, as chilling northerly winds can present challenging conditions which test the resolve and determination of the sailors taking part. This years series starts on 3rd January, and comprises sixteen races sailed over eight consecutive Sundays in January and February, one race in the morning and one race in the afternoon.
The frosty conditions on the water are however, balanced by the friendly welcome upon which Bough Beech prides itself, and the warmth of the atmposphere in the clubhopuse too. Launching at Bough Beech is also easy and visitors are permitted to leave their boats in the dinghy park for the duration of the series. Entry for the complete series for visitors is just £35, with reductions for youth and junior sailors under eighteen years of age.
As last year there will be fleet starts for the asymetric and conventional fleets, with prizes for both, as well as for under sixteen entrants too. But it is not just an event for the sailors. The Galley offers superb views over the water, and a ready supply of hot food, and so the entire family can come along and share in the sailing experience, all from the warmth of the clubhouse.
So, make your resolution for 2010 now, to compete one of the toughest race series around.
